A DRIVER was cut out of a crashed car in the early hours of yesterday morning (Saturday).

The incident happened at 4.30am in the Knocksharry area on the Peel to Kirk Michael coast road.

An off duty police officer came across the Nissan 350Z sports car on his way home.

The vehicle had apparently left the road hitting trees and hedges at the road side causing substantial damage to the car and hedge.

The driver, the sole occupant of the car, was trapped by his feet and legs.

Fire crews worked for 30 minutes to free him from the car which was pinned against a tree and with the driver's side hanging over a three metre drop.

The occupant was trapped due to the force of the impact pushing his door and the dashboard against his legs but he did not appear to be seriously injured.

The roof of the car had to be removed and the body work was eased away.

The driver was assisted from the vehicle and handed to the ambulance crews to be taken to hospital for a thorough check up.
